Located on the western side of Egypt’s Red Sea Riviera, Hurghada is a vibrant and exciting holiday destination that caters for every type of traveller. While less developed than Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada in recent years has transformed from a small fishing village to one of the premier sites in Egypt, yet has retained its historic and natural charm. However, it is diving in Hurghada that has earned this region of the Red Sea an enviable reputation among travellers.

Considered to be one of the most beautiful and pristine shorelines in the entire world, the Red Sea Riviera is internationally known for its outstanding beauty. Furthermore, its clear blue waters are calm for the majority of the year, which makes it ideal for various watersports, especially recreational snorkelling and scuba diving.

Hurghada boasts some of the best diving spots in the Red Sea. Its crystal clear waters are abundant with varied marine life and the conditions are ideal for both novice and experienced divers. The waters are warm, shallow and clear and there are numerous possibilities for visiting fantastic wrecks, such as the outstanding El Mina and Thistlegorm. Inexperienced divers can also visit wrecks on the north of the shallow Sha’ab Abu Nuhas reefs on extended day trips.

Diving in Hurghada is characterised by boat dives to the nearby Giftun Islands and Sha’ab Abu Nahas, while close to shore are sheltered tower, reef and pinnacle dives. The coastal waters around Hurghada are teeming with spectacular wildlife and divers can also enjoy unrivalled hard and soft corals. Pinnacles are covered in a dazzling variety of coral gardens, home to moray eels, cornet fish, reef fish, lion fish, jackfish and sometimes barracuda hunting them. Divers can also witness passing turtles, rays, puffer fish, butterfly fish and the occasional reef shark. Bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen in a lagoon east of Shaab El Erg and this area is perhaps the best chance for snorkelers and divers to see them in the wild.

For those that are unsure of their diving or swimming ability, then snorkelling is the perfect alternative. Even floating on the surface on the Red Sea provides a window into a bewildering seascape of colour, where large shoals of goat fish and cornet fish pass inches away and snorkelers can feed pieces of bread to turtles and eels by hand.

The area around Hurghada is protected and diving companies adhere to environmental friendly procedures. This ensures that divers and snorkelers have the opportunity to see many unusual and exotic species of marine life, some of which are only found in the Red Sea, including the emperor angelfish, parrot fish, blue-spotted ray and Picasso trigger fish.

With a number of established diving companies in Hurghada that can cater for both novice and experienced divers, travellers are spoilt for choice. The combination of some of the best coral reefs in the world, favourable climate, abundant archaeological sites of interest and a myriad fish and other marine life, this stretch of Egypt’s coastline is emerging as one of the most popular tourist destination in the world.

When it comes to a successful holiday, there is one key ingredient that is included on most people’s wish lists time: the perfect beach. Everyone is different and therefore have preferences and desires that may vary, but around the world there are some beaches that are simply so stunning every single one of their visitors will never forget it.

When it comes to the best beaches on the planet, where else to start than Australia? Aside from the world famous Bondi Beach, the coast of this southern Hemisphere gem boasts a number of other idyllic and spectacular locations to suite all tastes.

Cable Beach in Broome, for example, boasts long stretches of white sands and turquoise waters that might as well have stepped straight from a picture of paradise. The aesthetics, however, are just the start of the attraction. Sunset camel treks, parasailing and a host of watersports are on offer to ensure you make the most of your time in this sun-drenched slice of heaven.

Think beaches and perfection and more often than not you will think of the Maldives. This collection of idyllic islands boasts some of the very best sunbathing spots in the world.

Wherever you go, Maldives holidays are sure to be experiences you will never forget. If you can, though, head for Sun Island beach, a strong candidate for the title of world’s best beach. This particular piece of paradise can be found in the southern group of the Indian Ocean islands which lie south of Sri Lanka. The waters simply beg to be explored, while the brilliant white sands provide the perfect place to recover from your rewarding excursions.

For sands with a little more vibrancy and colour, head to Central America and Mexico. As something of a party island, Mexico holidays offer plenty to thrill you during the day then keep you going long into the night. For overall quality and a something for everyone feel, head for Puerto Escondido and the world class surfing hotspot of Playa Zicatela.

The surrounding beaches also have enduring appeal, principally the presence of some most welcome optional shade provided by palms which lean so far they almost meet the ground.

For those on a smaller budget, there are of course a number of stunning coastal spots right here in Britain. It is a sad fact that, in the mad rush to get away to the most exotic sounding and looking places possible, the treasures that lie beneath our very noses are frequently overlooked, often criminally so.

Woolacombe in Devon, for example, has a seemingly endless stretch of golden sand that is the rival of anywhere in the world and, in the right conditions, can also be the ideal spot for both surfing and kayaking. Elsewhere in Britain is Rhossili Bay on the Gower coast in Wales. Though the windy conditions mark it out as a place for hardened souls only, the consistency of the mighty surf is ample reward for those who brave it.

It is, of course, the home climate that so often limits the appeal of Britain’s beaches. On their day, they sit right up alongside the best. The problem is that their days are all too rare.

Mauritius holidays, on the other hand, offer a collection of stunning beaches with a virtual guarantee of the perfect weather in which to enjoy them. The remarkable Perybere is a particular highlight. A small cove which lies between the watersports haven of Grand Bay and Cap Malheureux, it is one of the finest bathing spots in the world.

If your holiday is going to be a beach one, it makes sense to find the absolute best beach with which to enjoy it.

If you’re thinking about stepping out onto the world stage and exploring the best the world has to offer, you’re in great company! A lot of people are really interested in trying to have a really good time and going outside your comfort zone is the perfect way to do it. If you have always wanted to make sure that you get plenty of time to enjoy the best that life has to offer, you definitely want to go on holiday outside of your home area and sea something else besides beautiful Mediterranean beaches.

So our recommendation today would have to be none other than Madrid. This is the capital of Spain, and is a classic destination that holiday travelers have enjoyed for many years now. With nearly 3.3 million residents calling Madrid home, it’s no secret that there’s plenty of things to see and do in the city of Madrid. Are you ready for a little adventure? Read on, we give you the whole scoop here!

So, where is Madrid located, actually? It’s the capital of Spain, but it’s located in the middle of the Iberian Peninsula, on a plateau. The altitude is about 650m, which means that you’re going to be up above sea level.

The weather tends to be a bit extreme from time to time, but the residents of Madrid have grown used to that. The climate can be classified as continental, with hot and dry summers along with cold winters. Snow isn’t completely out of the question, but it doesn’t happen a lot. Spring and autumn are usually the best times to go — April, May, June as well as September and October. July and August tend to be too hot to really go, but you’ll still have a good time even if you travel during that time of year.

What about the cultural history of Madrid? Well, it’s definitely rich with the keys and notes of royalty. Madrid was the seat of the Spanish Empire, and it definitely still shows in some of the cultural sights and sounds. There is the Royal Palace there, along with plenty of buildings that were used heavily by the Spanish monarchy. There are also plenty of cathedrals, a living testament to the history of the Catholic faith.

However, for all of this history, there are plenty of modern touches to Madrid as well. You can find restaurants, bakeries, shops, and everything else. You can always find a vibrant party going on in the city, and despite appearances, the city is well known for being highly tolerant of gay visitors and residents alike.

The actual citizens of Madrid refer to themselves as Madrilenos, and they tend to be pretty laid back. During the summer you can see people taking siestas where no work is done. Bigger stores tend to run more by Western standards of business hours, staying open all day. The long breaks are usually done only on weekends and holidays.

There are many interesting neighborhoods to see when it comes to Madrid. Of course, this is not the only European city that’s divided into multiple “zones” or neighborhoods. We recommend a few neighborhoods to check out first.

If you’re looking for parties and adventures as a younger person, you’re going to enjoy the neighborhood of Alonso Martinez. There are tons of pubs and little discos, and many of them stay open until 3am.

If you are older and you really want a more “modern” adventure, there’s always the neighborhood of Barrio de las Letras. There are tons of interesting buildings along with some more bars, pubs, restaurants and even some hotels to stay. If you need an excuse to pull out your camera, there’s the Plaza de Santa Ana, which is a gorgeous square. The locals find it a little too overdeveloped and much more “tourist” than they would like, but it does bear a visit in our opinion.

Chueca is a neighborhood that is a magnet for gay travelers, even though it’s welcoming to everyone. There are plenty of new designs, cool shops, and cozy cafes that you can nip into. It’s pricey, but it’s well worth the visit if you really want a touch of luxury in your holiday.

If you really want to sample the best of the region, you will find the neighborhood of La Latina. There are great tapas restaurants where chefs cook up some truly innovative treats for your evening. There are more bars and pubs, which is a theme of Madrid. There are plenty of bars in Madrid.

If you’re looking for more of a budget experience, you will enjoy Ciudad Universitaria, which is where the students live.

On the other hand, there are plenty of luxury areas to check out as well. Salamanca is home to tons of expensive boutiques with unique shops to check out as well as department stores. You’ll also love Torre Europa. Even though a lot of locals find it too expensive, the truth is that there really is something for everyone. Besides, what dollar amount can you really put on making memories?

You don’t have to rent a car in order to enjoy a holiday in Madrid. Public transit is everywhere — subways, buses, trains, a bus system as well as taxi cabs.

Speaking a few words of Spanish will help you get around Madrid a lot better, but it’s not required. The younger generation is learning English rapidly, but the population at large tends to prefer Spanish. If you’re in a heavily tourist trafficked area, you’ll find plenty of English spoken and understood there.

So, what about all of those places to see? Let’s go over that.

You can’t talk about Madrid without covering the Puerta del Sol, which is the heart of Madrid. It’s also super busy — you don’t want to try navigating the plaza with a car. The traffic will just end up irritating you. You will find the hub for the local transit system here as well. This is where most of the locals meet, and this is where many of the festivals will be hosted if you come during a time where everyone is feeling festive (which is virtually all the time!)

There’s also the Plaza Mayor, a square that has truly played host to bullfights, markets, and even symphonies. Today it’s a zone for tourist shops, cafes, and restaurants. There’s a gorgeous statue of Phillip III.

There’s also the Mercado de San Miguel, which is a huge indoor market. You will see plenty of fresh food and meats, amazing produce and plenty of handmade items.

Cap your trip with the Palacio Real — the Royal Palace itself. It is technically the official residence of the King of Spain, but the royal family doesn’t reside there year round. It’s merely used for state ceremonies.

Guided tours are available, but many people like to navigate the palace on their own. Unfortunately, there’s no photography allowed.

There are also too many museums to mention — like the Museo del Prado, which houses tons and tons of amazing artwork and sculptures.

If culture is what you’re after, there are tons and tons of flamenco shows to check out. This is truly one of the most recognized cultural dances of Spain, and there’s nothing like being able to see it up close.

Of course, you might be tired after a day of drinking in all of these sights and sounds — why not get something to eat?

There are lots of classic dishes. Keep in mind that Madrid is an area that relies a lot on offal along with regular and more “familiar” muscle meats. Just about every part of the animal is used in this region, and the residents truly relish just about all of it.

Seafood is brought in from the coast, but it is very expensive. Still, some tourists like to check out all of the cuisine, including the pricier sets.

Madrid is a very large city, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities for accommodations. It doesn’t need to be something expensive if you don’t have the budget for it. You will find modest hotels as well as expensive ones. It’s merely what you want to actually spend money on that will determine your choices.

There are plenty of opportunities to have a good time in Madrid. We’ve tried to cover everything there is to see and do in the city but you have to realize that there is truly too much to actually cover in a single guide. With so many nonstop flights to Madrid, there’s only one way to figure out everything that has to do with the city — check it out for yourself!

There are many things that people do not think about when travelling. Plane travel etiquette is one of them. The truth is many do not understand that going by plane to a destination is a privilege and should be treated as one. Let us think about some very important plane travel etiquette ideas that you should always remember.

Courtesy stands out as the first thing that you need to consider at all times. This is crucial when travelling by plane as you should always respect and appreciate the flight crew. We are in front of people that work really hard and have to put up with many passengers that are disrespectful. You should never be one of them and you will be appreciated if you are courteous. It is never a pleasure to have people on board that are obnoxious and rude as it creates unwanted tension for every single passenger on board.
It should also be mentioned that personal hygiene is incredibly important. Once the plane took off, you are basically trapped together with all the other passengers in a space that is confined. It is your responsibility to be as odor free as you can and to smell clean. The worst thing possible when travelling by plane is to sit next to a person that smells bad. Showering before you go to the airport is always a really good idea.

The next thing that should be mentioned is being respectful with neighbors. Even if the people near you are complete strangers, there is nothing wrong in saying hello and being polite. There are people that would like to talk while others will not appreciate that. You can easily see whether or not the neighbor wants to be left alone and you should respect that decision at all times.
We should also talk about children as this is a really big problem at times. In the event that you are travelling with small kids, it is a necessity to control them. It is actually really irritating to travel for a few hours and keep hearing a child screaming. Sometimes a child does not listen to his parents but they do have to make sure that control is reality at all times.

Besides everything that was mentioned above, we need to add that it is always a really good idea to simply have respect for everyone around you. Even if most of them will never be seen again, it is no reason to not respect the etiquette tips that were just mentioned.

One of the top reasons why trips end up getting ultimately delayed is due to administrative and other legal paperwork that has to be on file before you can travel as you please. The reasons behind it are political in some areas and practical in others — we can debate them until the cows come home. However, the truth of the matter is that you really need to make sure that you get your passport.

It’s not just for when you want to go into another country. A passport is seen as another form of identification. This means that if you really want to make sure that you get everything taken care of in your everyday life, having a passport definitely helps. It’s something that takes documentation to acquire, so even if you’re trying to apply for a job employers know that you have the legal right to work within the country. It’s something that’s usually accepted without other proof required in some cases — like if you’re trying to get a driver’s license.

What about the travel world? Generally speaking, you’re going to need a passport if you’re really trying to travel to anywhere else. It can seem impossible to actually get out there and travel where you want to go, but it doesn’t have to be that way. It really just depends on actually being able to get your passport in a timely fashion.

Unfortunately, there’s usually nothing timely about getting your passport. It can take up to 12 weeks to get your passport, even if you decide to opt for expedited service. Some people report getting a passport in 6 weeks or less, but do you really want to trust that if you don’t have your passport and a trip is looming right around the corner. It sounds like it would be a lot smarter to actually focus on getting your passport first, and then planning your trip.

If you are planning on traveling as a group, you’re going to definitely want to make sure that you budget even more time. This is because everyone moves at a different pace when it comes to actually getting their paperwork turned in. While some balk at the cost of getting a passport, it’s really not as bad as people make it out to be. In the United States a passport is $75 for 10 years. That’s a long time to enjoy your passport, so why wouldn’t you want to keep using it as long as you could?

Even if Americans just want to go to Canada or Mexico or even the British Virgin Islands, they’re going to need their passport. While some argue that you don’t need it for Puerto Rico, you will still want to make sure that you bring it anyway just in case. It’s a good form of identification that says a lot about you even without you having to say a word.

Of course, there’s another reason why you should have a passport — for the stamps, silly! Who doesn’t love the idea of being able to collect a bunch of stamps from their travels? This is something that can easily make things a lot easier later on down the road when you really want to share memories with people of the places you’ve gone. There’s just something special about being able to show off a few stickers from where you traveled all around the world. Even when your passport is no longer valid, you’ll still be able to cheep the book as a memory file, and that’s always a nice touch.

Overall, now is definitely the time to get your passport — after all, your passport is a lot more important than you think!

You see, travel is something that’s gotten elitist lately, and we just don’t now why. As long as you have a sense of adventure, you can always travel. You can always step out of your comfort zone and learn what other people truly do in their everyday lives. That should be the purpose of travel.

Now, we’re not trying to knock luxury hotels and five star restaurants. Everything has a place in the market, and we’re luxury hounds too. But there does come a point where we have to tell you that it’s okay to not want to do the whole luxurious, expensive vacation deal.

What if you wanted to volunteer in another country? That’s not only rewarding, but you’ll build connections that will last a lifetime. Also, it’s a crash course in navigating non-profits, something that looks excellent on a resume. Sometimes when you really need experience in something, you can’t wait for the right time to make things happen. You just have to take opportunities as they come.

Is there some administrative work to do when it comes to your next vacation or trip? Certainly. If you’re going to travel overseas, you’re definitely going to need a passport. You’re definitely going to need to make sure that you have emergencies covered. That’s either going to be through travel insurance or out of pocket. If we were in your shoes, we would definitely get a travel insurance policy. Make sure that you really take the time to read through it to make absolutely sure that you will be able to get things done in case of emergency. Far too often travelers think that getting any policy will do, and that’s really not the case at all.

You also need to think about how your trip fits into the grand scheme of things. Are you trying to travel because you want to see how another culture lives? Then you’re going to need to be on your guard and at your most respectful. We say that it’s important to be on your guard because it’s easy to let things slip, thinking “hey, I’ll never visit this city again, so why not?” However, your global reputation matters. You never know who will see you, or who will record you making a fool of yourself. Employers do have a tendency to pay attention to social networks — would you really want to be known as being culturally insensitive? Definitely not!

Overall, you have to stop and realize that the world of travel still marches on. New travel guides are being posted all the time, and more people are talking about travel now than ever before. Could it be the social media revolution driving the changes? Of course — now that regular people have more and more of a voice, it’s time to start using that voice to actually push forward and get things done.

So if you’re not sure where to travel, don’t beat yourself up. Don’t think that travel is outside your budget. Don’t think that you can’t go somewhere wonderful with friends and create memories that will last a lifetime. Don’t ever assume that everyone else deserves to travel while you stay at home. With a little planning and some input, you can make things happen in a big way. So why not plan your next trip today? You don’t want to delay when the rest of the world is just waiting for you?

Crowds, crowds, and more crowds. That’s what travel ends up becoming for a lot of people. Nothing but running around in circles trying to be a little more than just another number in the crowd. It’s not your fault if your vacations end up like this. The travel industry focuses on nothing but the height of summer which is usually where most of the travel takes place. However, do you really want to be surrounded by all of that noise? Probably not. Therefore we are going to take the other opinion — why not travel during the off-peak times?

One of the myths of traveling during off peak times is that there will be nothing to do but to sit looking at your shoes. That’s not the case at all. In fact, most tourism hotspots wish you would travel to see them during the non-busy periods. That’s helping them stay open longer and pay their staff. Those dry spells are killer for tourist towns, and it can be really hard to make ends meet otherwise. When you’re ready to really see that there’s so much opportunity for you to have a good time, you’re going to want to jump right in.

However, proper planning is a must if you’re really going to make the off-peak trip work out for you. You need to research ahead of time to make sure that your tourist hotspot of choice is really going to be active enough to even make the trip worthwhile. In the past, this was more of a hit or miss opportunity. Today is a new day though. Indeed, the rise of the Internet makes it easy to see where good off-peak travel spots are going to be, and other places where it’s better to avoid — it’s just too dead to travel there and have a good time.

If you really want to make sure that you’re going to have a great time, you need to start thinking about the exact type of vacation that you want. Location is going to play a role, but budget will also play a role too. Just because you’re going off-peak doesn’t meant hat everything in the world is going to be dirt cheap and you’re never going to have to budget. That would be something that’s just unheard of. If you really want to make sure that you have things taken care of, you have to be able to actually consider every aspect of your trip.

Don’t be afraid to travel with a group rather than just yourself. Group travel is something that doesn’t get enough love in the travel industry. When you travel with a group, you definitely have a built in social group that has your back — what more could you want than that?

English speakers, rejoice! You can go on vacation and actually be understood in your native language! Now, we normally advocate learning a little bit of the host country’s language to grease the wheels of acceptance when you land in a foreign country, but the country that we have to cover today makes that a bit redundant. After all, you already know English, so there’s no reason to learn it again.

The country we’re talking about is Antigua, and trust us — it’s definitely worth the write up. There are just so many neat and interesting things about Antigua that it’s hard to figure out where to begin.

So we might as well start from the top. Antigua is a Caribbean nation that used to be owned by the British. They actually received their independence in 1981, which means that the nation of Antigua has actually not been a nation for very long! It’s actually made of two islands that come together to form one nation. The island of Antigua and the island of Barbuda are referred to simply as Antigua by most tourists and most travel outlets. Speaking of travel, over the years Antigua has emerged as a serious tourism magnet. Lots of different tourists from all over the world flock to Antigua, but you might wonder why.

The answer is partially contained in the beauty of the island. The warm pink sand invites even the most hardcore urban warrior to relax and put their feet up. Of course, there are classic sugar-white sandy beaches waiting for tourists as well. Everything in Antigua is kept as clean as possible to encourage more travelers to really fly out and see what the country is all about.

When it comes to accommodations on Antigua, you actually have a lot to choose form. Like most travel destinations, it depends on the budget that setting aside for this vacation. If you really want to go for the cheapest vacation possible, then you’ll want to try to find more of a community dorm type situation on the island. There are a few small guesthouses that specialize in this type of accommodation, so don’t be afraid to hit them up first. Of course, if you’re on the other end of the spectrum where you want a more luxurious stay, then it’s really all about the resorts. They provide amazing accommodations that include a lot of amenities and activities. This is definitely a great option for the guest that really wants to be spoiled and taken care of from start to finish.

If you really want to go all out, there is an option that exists even above the resorts — private villas. Yes, it’s something that would be better for a long term stay in Antigua, like several weeks to a month. Still, it’s something wonderful to give you and your travel guests. It’s a one of a kind experience that would be hard to duplicate elsewhere. The beauty of the eastern Caribbean comes alive when it’s on your terms. You aren’t going to have to worry about sharing your villa with people that you haven’t met. It will basically be just you and your travel group. Of course, this is also a perfect option for newlyweds. You can plan your honeymoon in Antigua if you really wanted to, and that’s perfectly fine. It just depends on what goals you’re trying to accomplish by being in Antigua.

No matter what type of accommodation that you choose, you should always make sure that you book in advance. Spaces are limited and the competition to get great accommodation is quite fierce. This is not really the time to start thinking about a last minute trip to Antigua. While you could pull it off, you might not get your first choice of location in this fashion.

Now then, we’ve covered accommodation pretty well — it’s time to talk about food. If there’s one thing that travelers like to do while they’re on vacation, it’s definitely eat. Thankfully Antigua definitely doesn’t disappoint in this regard. If you really want to think about it from another perspective, you’ll find chances to savor the local cuisine as well as cuisine from around the world. Most tourist destinations have learned that catering to other cuisines is a great way to get more travelers to come in. That’s because when a specialty comes from outside of a country’s borders, there’s always a bit of a variation that’s added. So the Mexican dishes that you might be used to get their very own twist when they’re brought to Antigua. This can be the case for other cuisines around the world as well; it just depends on what type of restaurant that you go to.

Things are a bit more expensive on the island because things have to be imported, but there are still chances to eat well on a budget. If you have a room with a community kitchen or even a private kitchen, then you can save money by preparing your own meals. There are grocery stores on the island — after all, the residents of the island have to eat too!

If you want alcoholic beverages, this Caribbean nation definitely doesn’t disappoint. There are fantastic beers and different rum drinks to try, but it’s not necessary if you really don’t want to drink. There are pineapple drinks, guava drinks, and even passionfruit drinks. The usual imported sodas also exist as well if you really want to go back to those, but you might as well try to experience something new — you’re on vacation!

Safety is going to be an issue, but that could be said of any travel destination you come across. The nation of Antigua is relatively safe but crime exists everywhere. You don’t want to leave common sense behind in your luggage. You need to make sure that you dress appropriately for your visit. If you are seen with a large amount of priceless jewelry, then you’re clearly going to be a target for theft.

If you are only in Antigua because your cruise ship has docked here, it’s even more important to stay safe. Criminals prey on people that are only in the country for a short visit, and cruise ship passengers definitely fit that bill. If you get lost and disconnected from your cruise ship, there might be a world of problems there as well. So you will need to make sure that you keep an eye on your surroundings and avoid wandering off if you have to be elsewhere.

Where can you go from Antigua? Well, that’s the nice thing about Caribbean island hopping — everything is fairly close by! You can go to Barbuda and explore the island while staying within the country’s borders, but there’s much more than that. You can also go to Montserrat or St. Bart’s.

Yet with so many things to do on the island, you might not want to rush off just yet! Why not go explore the beaches — like Half Moon Bay, which has to be seen in person in order to fully appreciate the beauty of your surroundings? There’s also snorkeling and renting boats to laze about on the water. There are a few touches of nightlife, but really Antigua is more laid back than a serious destination for hardcore partying. A few local bands and other nightlife attractions keep life interesting when the sun goes down.

Shopping is something that also attracts quite a bit of attention. Some things are going to be overpriced, but there are ways to get nice mementos of the time you enjoyed. Don’t forget that you can bring back a few shells from the beach, or take plenty of pictures to reflect your trip. There are duty-free shops, but you will need to make sure that you show a plane ticket or your cruise ship pass in order to qualify for the duty-free designation. It’s just a way to make sure that locals aren’t getting those goods without paying the duty on them.

It’s a great time to visit Antigua, and there are so many different things that you can do on the island — including just relax! We’re not saying that you have to rush around the island just for the sake of staying busy. However, we do think that you should try to check out one or two activities that really move you — you never know what you’re missing until you check it out for yourself!

Do you know what kind of traveler you are? No? Well, if you’ve never thought about it you might feel that the question is silly, or that you don’t really need to think about what type of traveler you are. After all, if you’re the one with the money then the world should just bend to you, right?

Not so fast. The way we travel is important because we need to think about the type of impression we want to leave behind. Even though it’s unfair, when you act rude or unpleasant on vacation — no matter if you’re really right about whatever’s being discussed — you still come off looking bad. A lot of people have this idea that they can do whatever they want on vacation and it’ll never get back to anyone. However, in today’s Internet-connected world these days are coming to an end. Unless you plan on staying in very undeveloped locations that don’t have a data uplink, you will find that your behavior can get posted on a wide variety of websites — including youtube.com itself! This means that other people will see you and possibly even identify you. That can have an effect on the social life that you enjoy.

After all, no one wants to be around someone unpleasant. It doesn’t matter who you’re speaking to — you should always strive to treat them with as much respect as you can. You shouldn’t feel like you really have to walk over water just to be a good person, but you do need to think about not only what you say, but how people can misinterpret it. This is very important in places where English is usually learned as a second language. Those without native command of the language might not fully understand what you’re saying if you’re using slang or idioms. Those are a bit harder to translate, but every language has them. It’s not just an English problem, but English is just the example that gets trotted out the most.

When you’re planning your vacation, you want to make sure that you’re going to be in a place where you are comfortable. If you’re really not one to explore a brand new culture, then you might want to limit your search of destinations to places where you’ve been before or places that share similar cultures to yours. Someone that isn’t comfortable with Asian culture might not want to book a trip to Thailand, and someone that isn’t comfortable with Afro-Caribbean traditions needs to stay out of the Caribbean altogether. This isn’t something that’s base don race or culture, but rather your limits as a person. This might be a controversial view, but if you know that you’re going to be uncomfortable somewhere, don’t waste your money. There are much cheaper ways to include diversity in your life than to spend your precious vacation time doing something you would rather avoid.

On the flip side, if you are ready to embark into a new world, you need to realize the type of traveler you need to be is someone that is a good observer. When you are in someone else’s home in real time, you wouldn’t tell them everything that they do is wrong, would you? That would get you in trouble very, very quickly. However, that’s what a lot of travelers do when they arrive at a new country they haven’t been to before. They immediately compare it to their home country and then deem it to be lacking in areas where their home country is superior. This puts the entire trip through that lens, and that’s pretty unfair. For starters, you’re only in the country for a limited period of time — how would you ever possibly be able to figure out everything there is to know about your new host country?

Since you have the Internet at your fingertips, it might be a good idea to figure out how the local people in the host country go about their everyday lives. No, we’re not talking about the classic tourist attitude of catering to whatever the foreigners on vacation want — we’re talking about how regular people live their lives. If you really want to command the most respect and understanding, you will want to be more local than tourist. Tourists have a lack of respect for things that matter to the local population, and this can lead to a lot of strained relations between you and the residents.

These lessons aren’t just for you, but they should extend to everyone in your travel party. If you’re really serious about doing something with your vacation that leaves behind great memories, you really do need to stop and decide upon what type of vacation traveler you really want to be — why not get started today?

If you like to save money when you travel, you’re actually in good luck — fall is a great time to actually save a lot of money. Unless you’re going to be traveling during a major holiday, you’ll find that a lot of people just aren’t going to be traveling with you. This worries the major travel outlets, and what happens next is usually a wide variety of discounts. Again, the only exception to this is when you actually need to travel during the holidays. Since the demand is so high, you’re not as likely to find good deals. However, since the fall season is enough considered be off-peak, you actually have the chance for some good deals.

Therefore, fall is the perfect time for the budget traveler to build a vacation that’s actually going to be interesting.

If you’re going to stay for at least a week, why not switch things up when it comes to accommodation? After all, since fall is the time for great deals you might actually want to book a vacation home rather than yet another hotel. Even though it feels like you might pay a little more, the truth is that you actually get the cook your own food instead of having to go out to a restaurant every night. Even if you’ve got the budget, you’ll probably long to actually eat something that you’ve cooked. If you have any type of allergies or intolerances — or if you’re traveling with friends and family that do — you’re going to want that freedom to cook your own food. The last thing that you want to do is skip over details that will come in handy later on down the road, right?

Now that food and accommodations out of the way, you might want to actually take the time to think about what you actually want to do. The nice part about off-peak travel is that you really do get to think about the type of experience that you create on vacation. It’s hard when everything is so busy to really think about what you want to do. So if there’s something that you wanted to do during your summer trip that you didn’t get to do, you might want to just add it to your fall vacation instead. That’s really the way to go.

One thing that we really recommend is that you don’t make the fall trip a solo one. Unless your summer was already a group trip, then by all means — get a little solitude for yourself. However, we think that group vacation is a lot more fun because you really get to enjoy things as a group and there’s a built in social structure. Of course, if you’re smothered by people in your day to day life, you might go on vacation to really unplug and get away from it all.

As always, all of the details are definitely up to you, but you’ll want to start putting something into motion before the holidays come up!
